Update on Current Capital Projects - City of Castle Hills:
Banyan Carolwood Phase II: Our contractor, D. Plata will be replacing sections of base work at the corner of Banyan and Carolwood because the initial installation failed to meet the threshold for material testing for compaction on the base. The City of Castle Hills requires 92% to 97% for material on this road work. Our engineers placed the work on hold in order to determine the appropriate course of action. As a result of the recommendation by our engineers, the contractor will need to replace these sections of the current base (contractor’s cost).
Once this is complete, our engineers will conduct further testing on the identified sections in order to move forward and complete the mill and overlay (asphalt). Quality assurance is paramount on projects which require full-depth to ensure long-term integrity of the street. As part of this project, the City had partnered with San Antonio Water System (SAWS). SAWS provided funding for the sewer line extension from 105 Carolwood to the intersection of Banyan, which is complete. SAWS will also fund and perform the mill and overlay (asphalt) for this section in the coming weeks. Our contractor, D Plata is working to schedule the work within the next week and overall is working to complete the project before the end of June. As we close out the project, the City will work with the contractor and engineers to complete the “punch list” to ensure full restoration is complete and have met all requirements of the contract.
Street Improvements Phase I: Our contractor RL Jones is finishing flatwork (curbs and driveways) improvements along Travertine. Once complete, contractor has scheduled the final asphalt application on June 8 and 9 to Trillium, Travertine, Bluet and Shalimar to Jackson-Keller. Project was originally scheduled to conclude at the end of July. As we close out the project, the City will work with the contractor and engineers to complete the “punch list” to ensure full restoration is complete and have met all requirements of the contract.
Street Improvements Phase II: Our contractor Austin Bridge has been on Briarcliff this week and will be there for the next four weeks. Austin Bridge will then move to Bluet, Wottlin and Shalimar over the next four months. Austin Bridge and Road, LP. was given the notice to proceed (NTP) on May 16, 2022.The project has a duration time of 210 days and construction will be down in phases. We have attached a detailed schedule for Phase II which may be subject to change during the project.
