The Parks and Projects Commission is encouraged to seek out and, with council approval, apply for any grants or other funding that might benefit the city parks program. The Parks Commission is authorized to explore and negotiate regarding future park projects and joint use projects. All proposed agreements and expenditures will be submitted to the City Council for final review and approval. Presently, the City of Castle Hills has only one public park, “The Commons” next to city hall, and no other land or funding which could be dedicated to parks.
The Parks and Projects Commission early on after being established worked with NEISD for an opportunity for joint use of the playground at Castle Hills Elementary for public park purposes. The Parks and Projects Commission also developed a master plan for the commons which included phased projects for such amenities as a playscape, splash pad and a shade structure. The Parks and Projects Commission also established a branding sub-committee to develop a new “brand” for the City of Castle Hills which recommended the new street sign design. The Commission consists of 5 members and a council liaison.
